Huntingdon Discount Tire
From Father to Son, A Tradition of Service
From the Nov 12, 2024 e-Edition
Huntingdon Discount Tire, 123 Dillahunty Lane, was established by Johnny Abbott in 1998. The small business is now owned by Johnny’s son, Justin Abbott.
Justin started working at the business as a young teenager in the summers and, upon graduating from Huntingdon High School in 2009, immediately started working full time at the shop. He purchased the business from his father in 2016.
Johnny still works at the shop, as does Justin’s grandmother, Regina Bradley, who has been with the business from nearly the beginning.
Rounding out the eight-person staff are Lacye Abbott, Brad Markham, Toxey Perritt, Zack Spain and Curt Powers.
Justin spoke to The Banner about the business’s humble beginnings and how far it’s come.
“When he opened it in 1998, he was the only one. He was washing cars, changing oil, doing anything he could just to build it. There wasn’t a customer base. He was literally going and getting people’s cars to bring and wash for $10 or $15, changing oil for $10. He would have done anything to get it going. So now to see it build into this huge customer base that we have…it’s just grown. It’s a blessing to take it over and try to keep it in the family.”
The shop offers a variety of services by appointment or walk-in, including tires, brakes, alignments, suspension work, lifts, ball joints, tie rods and leveling kits.
Justin expressed his appreciation for the support he’s received from the community.
“Without the people, we wouldn’t be anything, so we always try to make the customer the priority. Treating people the right way, because word of mouth is what really spreads business. We really appreciate every customer that comes in here that feels like they were treated right, then they go out and say, ‘You know, you should really go to that place,’ and then we treat them right. It really means a lot. It’s a blessing to be here. It’s a blessing to be as busy as we are in a small town. To be able to employ everybody and stay busy. We really appreciate all our customers, because we would literally be nothing without them.”
Huntingdon Discount Tire is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
