Huntingdon Historical Society Meets March 18

Steve McDaniel is the guest speaker at the Huntingdon Historical Society’s next meeting, Wednesday, March 18 at 9 a.m. in the conference room of Huntingdon City Hall.

McDaniel’s presentation focuses on General Nathan Bedford Forrest’s West Tennessee campaign to disrupt General U. S. Grant’s supply lines and communications during the United States Civil War. Steve McDaniel will also give an overview of the development of Parker’s Crossroads Battlefield Park.

McDaniel was born in Huntingdon and is a longtime advocate for historic preservation in West Tennessee. He serves on the Douglas Henry State Museum Commission, is Vice President of the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association, and serves as Historian for the Parkers Crossroads Battlefield Association.

He has been closely involved in the preservation and development of the 370-acre Parkers Crossroads Battlefield Park. He continues to work on the interpretation and protection of Civil War resources in the region. He previously served 30 years in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

He and his wife, Phyllis, have one daughter and two grandchildren.

All are welcome to join the Huntingdon Historical Society as they learn the importance and impact of local history.
