Huntingdon Adds Wins on Homecoming

HUNTINGDON (January 24) — Huntingdon High School celebrated basketball Homecoming Friday with a sweep of district opponent Stewart County. The Fillies amassed a sizable lead after three quarters, but had to hold off a late Lady Rebel rally for a 65-56 win. The Mustangs started strong and cruised to a 91-58 victory.

Huntingdon Fillies 65, Stewart County Lady Rebels 56
The Fillies had a 16-14 edge after the opening frame, led by Sara Beth Smith with eight points. Josey Stokes and Delaney Byars scored four points each. Lady Rebels Faith Dacus and Angie Nelson scored six points each, Dacus on a pair of three-pointers. Jadyn Newman had a pair.

Huntingdon doubled up Stewart County 20-10 in the second quarter, led by Quinn Kelley with nine points on a trio of threes. Smith scored six, Stokes hit a three-pointer, and Byars added a pair. Nelson led the Lady Rebels with four points. Neely Cook hit a three, Karlie Bisogro had a pair, and Newman hit a free throw. At the half, Huntingdon led 36-24.

The Fillies had a 18-9 advantage in the third, led by Byars and Smith with seven points each. Knox Bennett scored four points. Dacus scored five for Stewart County with a three, and Nelson had four points. Entering the final frame, the Fillies led 54-33.

The Lady Rebels’ rally in the fourth came up short at 23-11, led by Dacus with ten points, including a pair of threes. Nelson scored eight, Newman hit a three, and Namine Bridges had a pair. Smith scored seven for Huntingdon, and Bennett and Stokes each added a pair.

Huntingdon’s Sara Beth Smith led all scorers with 28 points. Delaney Byars scored 13.

Angie Nelson led Stewart County with 22 points. Faith Dacus scored 21 with five three-pointers.

Mustangs 91, Rebels 58
Huntingdon stormed out to a 33-15 lead after the first frame, led by Kenton Smith with eleven points, including a three-pointer. Caleb Ezell scored nine on a trio of threes. E.J. Lewis had eight points, Bryson Whiteside scored four with a three, and Braylon Dearmon hit a free throw. Jacob Morgan led the Rebels with a dozen points. Zachary Morgan hit a three.

Stewart County had a 20-19 edge in the second quarter, led by J. Morgan with eight points, including a three. Landon Green and Hargis Cherry each scored five with a three, and Z. Morgan added a pair. Smith led the Mustangs with nine points, including a pair of threes. Whiteside and Kelton Johnson each scored four, Whiteside with a three. Hayes Eubanks had a pair. At the half, Huntingdon led 52-35.

The Mustangs had a 27-15 advantage in the third, led by Smith with eleven (with a three-pointer). Garvin Kee scored five with a three, and Johnson had four points. Ezell hit a three, and Lewis and Kylen Turner each had a pair. J. Morgan led the Rebels with nine (with a three), Jacob Finch scored five with a three, and Benn Hendricks hit a free throw. Heading into the final frame, the Mustangs led 79-50.

Huntingdon capped the win with a 12-8 tilt in the fourth, led by Owen Krueziger with five points, including a three. Tyreke Hutch, Owen King and Jeremiah Cannon each had a pair, and Lucas Smith hit a free throw. Green led Stewart County with four points, and Cherry and Easton West each had a pair.

Mustang Kenton Smith led all scorers with 31 points, including four three-pointers. Caleb Ezell scored 12 points on four three-pointers. E.J. Lewis had ten points.

Jacob Morgan led the Rebels with 29 points, including a pair of threes.
