Huntingdon Council Honors Spring Athletes

HUNTINGDON (July 23) — The meeting room at Huntingdon City Hall was packed Tuesday as the Town Council honored Huntingdon High School athletes for their impressive performances at the state level.
The Mustang baseball team was recognized for finishing as runner-up in the Class 2A championship. They earned championships in District 12 and Region 6.
Mustang players are Owen Kreuziger, Gray Eubanks, Silas Sharp, Easton Byars, Aiden Hilliard, Sawyer Raines, Wesley Williams, Brady Warbritton, Graham Bartholomew, Braylon Rich, Caiden Biggart, Cody Wilson, Gabriel Smothers, Braylin Dearmon, Tayshawn Rivers, Thomas Kendrick, Caleb Ezell and Derek Hodge. Managers are Cayden Brewer and Evan Blakeman; coaches are Alan Eubanks, Taylor McCarty and Brandon McCormick.
The Fillies softball team was recognized for finishing as runner-up in the Class 2A championship. They earned championships in District 12 and Region 6.
Fillies players are Katelyn Brewer, Kathrine Meggs, Madison Mann, Kensley Brockman, Josey Stokes, Natalie Kreuziger, Kylie Tippitt, Aubry Castleman, Adalyn Allen, Ava Ryan Canovan, Delaney Byars, Josie Sanders, Chesney Baker, Taylor Canovan, Kelby Crossno, Lilly Wortham, Karter Moore, Reese Bradley, Bailey Cary and Mileigh Hilliard. Coaches are Alicia Warbritton and Scarlet Blake.
Huntingdon track and field athlete Blaine Todd was recognized for finishing fourth in the state in the 3200-meter run.
In a June meeting, the council recognized track and field athlete Tycen Willis, who was state runner-up in the discus throw. Willis has relocated to continue his education and was unable to attend either meeting.
Mayor Nina Smothers also acknowledged that Hunter Ensley, a member of the National Champion Tennessee Vols Baseball team, was presented the Pinnacle of Excellence award during a celebration in his honor on July 6.
In other business, the council approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance allowing the Board of Zoning Appeals to approve uses similar to permitted uses and uses permitted on appeal in residential districts. The amendment, proposed by the Huntingdon Municipal-Regional Planning Commission, was approved on a 5-0 vote. Councilperson Andrew Maddox, who sits on the Board of Zoning Appeals, abstained.
Another amendment approved was to Title 12 of the Municipal Code to bring the town into compliance with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance energy code language. The new language provides for less stringent inspection requirements.
LaRenda Scarbrough was appointed to a three-year term on the Board of Zoning Appeals, replacing Betty Pritchard, who recently resigned the board after 20 years of service.
A water bill adjustment was approved for Steve Christie.
The council approved an agreement with ATA CPAs and Advisors for the Fiscal Year 2024 audit contract in the amount of $32,650. There will be an additional fee of $4,000 in the event that a Uniform Guidance audit is deemed necessary. The contract amount is a $1,150 increase from the previous fiscal year.
The meeting adjourned after 23 minutes.
Councilperson Charles Hodges was absent.
