Huntingdon Swept by South Gibson

HUNTINGDON (November 26) — Huntingdon High School hosted South Gibson Tuesday for a pair of basketball contests. Both games were competitive in the fourth quarter, but the visiting teams held on for wins in both. The Lady Hornets topped the Fillies 48-34, while the Hornets defeated the Mustangs 60-53.
South Gibson Lady Hornets 48, Huntingdon Fillies 34
The opening frame was a 5-5 wash. Quinn Kelley hit a three-pointer for Huntingdon, and Delaney Byars had a pair. Lady Hornet Karson Dunn hit a three, and Jade Reed had a pair.
South Gibson had a 7-4 edge in the second quarter, led by Reed with four points. Ivy Cianciolo hit a three. Byars scored all four Fillies points. At the half, South Gibson led 12-9.
The Lady Hornets doubled up the Fillies 18-9 in the third, led by Cianciolo with five points, including a three. Ava Owens scored four, and Dunn hit a three. J. Reed, Faith Reed and Trinity Johnson each had a pair. Sara Beth Smith scored six points for Huntingdon, and Josie Stokes hit a three. Entering the final frame, the Lady Hornets led 30-18.
South Gibson capped the win with an 18-16 tilt in the fourth, led by J. Reed with six points. F. Reed scored five with a three-pointer, and Cianciolo had four points. Dunn added a pair, and Johnson hit a freebie. Stokes scored six Fillies points on a pair of threes, and Byars had five points. Grier Bartholomew hit a three, and Smith added a pair.
Lady Hornet Jade Reed led all scorers with 14 points. Ivy Cianciolo scored a dozen with a pair of threes.
Delaney Byars led the Fillies with eleven points. Josie Stokes scored nine on a trio of three-pointers.
Hornets 60, Mustangs 53
The boys’ first frame was also a wash, 18-18. Mustang Caleb Ezell scored eight points, including a pair of three-pointers. Kenton Smith scored seven, and Bryson Whiteside hit a three. Hornet Gavin Crawford scored eight with a pair of threes, and Richard Addo had four points. Koen Thomas, Sam Tritt and Cade Beaver each had a pair.
Huntingdon took the lead with a 14-11 edge in the second quarter, led by Smith with eight points. Ezell hit a three, and Braylin Dearmon also scored three points. Cooper Yarbro scored five for South Gibson, including a three. Tritt had four points, and Beaver added a pair. At the half, the Mustangs led 32-29.
The Hornets stormed ahead with a 15-6 advantage in the third, led by Thomas and Tritt with four points each. Beaver scored three, and Addo and Crawford each added a pair. Ezell scored four for Huntingdon, and Dearmon added a pair. Heading into the final frame, the Hornets led 44-38.
South Gibson sealed the win with a 16-15 tilt in the fourth quarter, led by Tritt and Aiden Moore with five points each (each with a three). Thomas, Crawford and Yarbro each added a pair. Ezell, Tyreke Hutch and Hayes Eubanks each score four for Huntingdon, and Whiteside hit a three.
Mustang Caleb Ezell led all scorers with 19 points, including a trio of threes. Kenton Smith scored 15 points.
Sam Tritt led South Gibson with 15 points, including a three. Gavin Crawford had a dozen with a pair of threes.
