Huntingdon's Simpson Earns Singles Title, Advances to State

McKENZIE (May 4) — Huntingdon's Shawn Simpson will compete in the 2026 TSSAA Class A Boys Tennis Singles State Championship following a title run in the Region 7A Boys Tennis Tournament.
In region play Monday at Bethel University's Dr. Deborah Thompson Tennis Complex, Simpson defeated Chester County's Cooper Sparks in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) in the semifinals and Chester County's Landon Ketchum in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) in the championship.
Simpson will face Reese Russell of Anderson County Thursday, May 14 at 10 a.m. in the Champions Tennis Complex in Chattanooga. A win will advance him to a semifinal match at 2 p.m.; the championship match is Friday, May 15 at 9 a.m.
Huntingdon was also well-represented at the region level in girls singles. Jazmine Seiber won her semifinal over McNairy County's Sadie Huddleston in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). Mary Kendall Stevens was defeated by Collinwood's Saydee Powell (6-1, 6-2) in the semis. Powell defeated Seiber in the championship (6-2, 6-2).
