From the Sep 15, 2026 e-Edition

McKENZIE — The Inglenook Book Club gathered for its monthly meeting on September 9 at Lakeside in McKenzie. President Gail Mack called the meeting to order, leading members in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Club Aim, and the Club Motto. Fourteen members responded to the roll call.

During the opening proceedings, the club celebrated monthly birthdays for Peggy Chappell, Mary Newman, and Carolyn Potts, with members joining in song. Following the reading and approval of the August minutes and Treasurer Donna Ward's financial report, attendees enjoyed refreshments served by hostesses Jean McKinnie and Genia Sherwood. The treat included pineapple upside-down cake, an assorted nut medley, chocolates, and beverages.

Committee Reports and 2027 Officer Elections

Committee chairs presented updates across several areas: Sunshine cards were sent to members, Telephone chairs were thanked for reminders regarding meeting details and school donations, and the Membership committee noted openings for individuals who enjoy reading.

A central focus of the business session was the election of officers for the 2027 term. The nominations committee—comprising Jean McKinnie, Mary Newman, and Genia Sherwood—presented a slate of officers that was formally approved by motion:

Members also carried out the regular book passing schedule, setting the next exchange date for September 23.

Upcoming Events and Announcements

Plans were discussed for the upcoming annual Christmas party. Following a motion made by Jean McKinnie and seconded by Pedie Pedersen, the club voted on caterer selection for the event. Members were informed that signup sheets for party attendance, hostess and program duties, updating 2027 directory booklet information, and submitting 2027 book titles will be available at the next gathering.

The next meeting is scheduled for October 14 at 3:00 p.m. at Lakeside. Hostesses will be Jean McKinnie and Carolyn Moore, with Moore also delivering the program. Attendees are reminded to bring small trinket items for school donations.
