Inglenook Book Club
From the Feb 18, 2025 e-EditionLakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie was where the Inglenook Book Club held its February 12 meeting at 3 p.m., with 19 ladies in attendance. President Gail Mack called the meeting to order at 3 p.m. She thanked the hostesses Jean Hollomon and Suzanne Russell for serving delicious strawberry pretzel salad, along with chocolates and assorted beverages. The Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Motto were recited by all. The February birthday ladies are Marilynn Putman and Sandi McMahen.
Roll call was taken, followed by the reading of the December minutes. Motion to approve the minutes by Jean Hollomon and seconded by Victoria Ard with an affirming vote. Treasurer Donna Ward gave the treasurer’s report, which was also approved as read. President Mack called upon each committee chair to give updates, and she thanked everyone for all they do, and especially reminding us of the next meeting date, time, location, and what to bring for school donations.
In old business, the group was congratulated for winning 1st place in the Carroll Arts Trivia Bowl held in January. Geneva Johnson mentioned that today was the last day to get tickets for the upcoming Hearts & Harmony Dinner and Music which is Saturday, February 15 at 6 p.m. at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, McKenzie. Tickets are $15. There was mention of the new bookstore coming to McKenzie soon. Also mentioned that member, Mona Batchelor will be getting her book published. The McKenzie Banner had a clipping in today’s paper from McKenzie Elementary School Faculty and Staff, thanking the Inglenook Book Club ladies for all the donations they give for the children monthly. There was no other business to discuss, so President Mack called on Peggy Chappell to present her program.
Peggy spoke to the group on New York Times bestselling author of historical fiction writer-Ariel Lawhon. She has assisted in the relaunch of “The Boom Tide’, on Facebook which is dedicated to helping readers find books they love...while in the background is the strange, wonderful world of publishing. Very good program, and a lot of interesting information Mary Newman continued with book passing. The next book passing date is February 26.
The next meeting is on March 12, at 3 p.m., at Lakeside. Hostesses will be Mona Batchelor and Shirley Martin. The program will be presented by Carolyn Moore. Reminder to bring assorted individually wrapped food snack items for the school. The Benediction was recited by all, and the meeting adjourned.
