Inglenook Book Club Explores Club History at July Meeting
From the Jul 14, 2026 e-EditionThe Inglenook Book Club gathered for its monthly meeting on July 8, 2026, at 3 p.m. at the Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie. President Gail Mack presided over the meeting, which opened with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the Club Aim, and the club motto.
Hostesses Sherri Priestley and Debby Simon provided refreshments, serving ice cream cake, a snack medley, and beverages. The group also took a moment to celebrate July birthdays, recognizing Victoria Ard, Shirley Martin, and Debby Simon.
During the business portion of the meeting, 10 members answered the roll call. The minutes from June were approved following a motion by Victoria Ard, seconded by Jean Hollomon. In the absence of Treasurer Donna Ward, Beverly Mueller presented the financial report, which was subsequently approved after a motion by Victoria Ard and a second by Debby Simon.
President Mack called for committee updates. Sunshine chair Genia Sherwood confirmed that cards were sent to members. Jean Hollomon was recognized for coordinating meeting notifications and organizing school donations, and Victoria Ard provided an update on the book-passing progress.
The afternoon’s program was presented by Beverly Mueller, who discussed the history of book clubs in America and the specific history of the Inglenook Book Club in McKenzie. Drawing from an extensive collection of memorabilia dating back to 1921, Mueller shared that the "Inglenook" name was adopted in 1975, with "ingle" referring to a chimney and "nook" to a corner.
The club continues its initiative to support local schools and expressed gratitude to members who contributed donations this month. The next meeting is scheduled for August 12 at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Senior Living Community. Hostesses for the upcoming gathering will be Victoria Ard and Pedie Pedersen, and Debby Simon will present the program. Members are asked to bring individually wrapped snack items for the school donation drive.
