IN THIS EDITION: A Tribute to Black History
From the Feb 25, 2025 e-Edition
In This Week's Edition The McKenzie Banner pays tribute to Black residents who have made a difference in the area. This edition features interviews from William "Junior" Milam, Sharon Oglesby, Willie Oglesby Jr., Tara Tansil-Gentry, Daisy Nolen Dudley, James Hunt, Charlie Scates, Kim Bell Webb, John D. Williams, Ike Gilbert, and Karlene Brown.
*Please note: Some interviews were conducted in 2024 when Webb School achieved placement on the National Register of Historic Places.
For the past several years during February, The McKenzie Banner has produced a special edition featuring local Black residents and their stories.
We do this not because other stories are less important, but because many of these stories have remained untold. To be true stewards of history, we need not shy away or cherry pick the narrative, but welcome all voices to be part of the collective history. Only by doing this will we achieve harmony.
The Banner is thankful for each person who took the time to meet with us and share his or her stories. Thank you for the dedication and sacrifices you’ve made in your respective career fields and in service to our country. Your impact on the world is greater than you realize. Thank you for entrusting us to tell your stories.
Additionally, we are grateful to each sponsor of this edition. Your support makes local journalism possible. Reader, please remember to shop local first. Small businesses are the backbone of America, and your support makes the difference.
It is our great honor to work with the Webb Alumni Association and its members to bring you this tribute to Black history.
