Jerry Buford Holmes, 80, died peacefully on February 18, 2025. Jerry was born on July 12, 1944, in McKenzie, Tenn. to Buford and Lula Mae Holmes. He spent most of his life in Carroll County and Henry County, but traveled extensively throughout the United States for work, hunting, and fishing. He also cherished hunting trips to South America and a trip to Europe.
After graduating from high school, Jerry moved to Memphis to work for TG&Y stores, where his love for sales began. He went on to have several sales jobs, but the dearest to his heart was a successful career with Winchester Firearms, where he excelled as a salesman and made several lifelong friends. Jerry loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and skeet shooter. He taught each of his children to hunt, fish, waterski, and to appreciate the outdoors. Jerry loved an adventure, a good story, the Tennessee Volunteers, a good deal, and cooking for his family and friends.
Jerry is survived by his four children, each of whom he was so proud of: Kim Weaver of Piperton, TN, Karen Zane of Los Angeles, CA, Robert Holmes of Park City, UT, and Clayton Holmes of Paris, TN. He was equally proud of his nine grandchildren, who will cherish sweet memories of their Pawpaw. Will and Allison Hultman; Parker, Grant, Will and Drew Zane; and Colin, Connor and Lyla Holmes.
Jerry is also survived by his sisters, Bertie Douglas and Joyce Sullivan, both from Huntingdon, TN. Jerry was predeceased by his brother, Dale Holmes and sister, Shirley Lesseg.
A few of Jerry’s last words were “It’s been a good ride” and “I thank God every day for my children.”
The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Lakeside Assisted Living in McKenzie for their love and care of Jerry over the last few years. Lakeside was “home” for him.
