Kay Brown Retires from Spectrum with 57 Years of Service
From the Jul 30, 2024 e-Edition
McKENZIE (July 25) — It’s exceedingly rare in today’s world for an employee to remain with one company for one decade, let alone nearly six. But Kay Brown’s retirement from Spectrum last week marked 57 years (and eight months) of service.
Indeed, her tenure outdated even the company as it exists today. In her time, it has changed ownership and changed names many times. Clearvision, Cable Informations, Essex, Multivision and Charter Communications, to list a few, are names that long-time McKenzie citizens will recognize.
Brown noted that she’s worked on the same “block” from the beginning. When she was hired in 1966, the office was located on Main Street in the building that would later become Designer Jeans, just around the corner from her current office at 24 Circle Drive.
She has worked as a front counter clerk, a field operations assistant and a service coordinator (her final role).
She told The Banner, “It’s been good. Working here has been fun. As with every job, it has ups and downs, but mostly ups. The people I’ve worked with have been super. Just like family…. It’s been a long, short 57 years.”
Her final day was Thursday, but Wednesday she was treated to a cookout and a cake, surrounded by her co-workers.
Brown said she hasn’t made any plans for her retirement, but that she may travel, may pick up a new hobby and will definitely be attending local sporting events in which her nieces and nephews participate.
