Lady Cats Move to Semi-finals in Conference Championship
From the Mar 4, 2025 e-EditionBOWLING GREEN, Ky. – There is an old adage in sports which states, “It’s hard to beat a good opponent three times in one season.” The fifth seeded Bethel Lady Wildcats proved that to be true as they beat fourth seeded Georgetown 84-58 in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Saturday afternoon in Bowling Green.
Behind the MSC Freshman of the Year Micah Hart, the No. 16 Lady Wildcats led 19-11 after the first quarter. Hart had ten first quarter points. The Cats shot 44 percent from the floor while No.11 Georgetown shot 33 percent from the floor.
Bethel extended their lead to 23-13 early in the second quarter. The Lady Cats led by as many as 11 in the quarter and led 42-33 at the break Micah and Madison Hart had 14 points each. Mikee Buchanan scored 11 in the first twenty minutes. The long ball was a huge factor with Bethel hitting eight treys in the half.
The Cats maintained a double-digit lead throughout the third stanza and led 65-49 after three quarters. The Hart sisters, both first team all-conference performers combined for 49 of Bethel’s 65 points.
The Lady Cats did not allow Georgetown to get back into the game and eased their way to the big win, allowing them to move to the semi-finals on Monday.
Micah Hart led Bethel with a game high 28 points. Hart also grabbed seven rebounds. Madison Hart tossed in 27 points and had a team high nine rebounds. Buchanan had 16 points and eight boards.
Bethel hit 13 three-pointers and shot 49 percent form the field.
Bethel’s defense held the Tigers to 39 percent from the floor and GC was just 5-of-20 from the outside, The Cats had a 36-32 margin in rebounds and a 26-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
Teionni McDaniel led the Tigers with 16 points.
Coach Chris Nelson, “We are very proud of the way our ladies came out and played today. We took some hard looks at some film last week and felt like our young group responded from it. We have to continue to sit down and guard. We will enjoy this one this evening and move our focus to the next round quickly.”
The Cats face No. 1 seeded the University of the Cumberlands Monday, March 3, 2025, in the semi-finals at noon.
