Lady Rebels Close Inaugural Season with Eighth Grade Night Thriller, Fall to Henry County

McKENZIE (March 31) — McKenzie Middle School concluded its inaugural volleyball season in thrilling fashion Tuesday. The Lady Rebels took the first set, but the visiting Henry County Lady Patriots rallied to take the next two and claim the 2-1 win. It was also Eighth Grade Night, and nine players and one manager were honored on the court with family.

Eighth graders recognized were: Willow Stenberg, Madilyn Milam, Caleigh Ball, Bella Batton, Adrianna Gordon, Charlie Cassidy, Abby Carroll, Serenity Bobo, Sami Mathis and manager Kristy Towne.

The team also presented a certificate of appreciation to Centennial Bank and representatives Noah McEwen and Kim Gilmore for their generous support of the team in their inaugural season.

McKenzie claimed the first set, 25-21, then Henry County took the second, 25-18. The third and deciding set (played to 15) went to extra points as a team must win by two points. After multiple ties and match points, the Lady Patriots edged out an 18-16 victory.

Lady Rebel Serenity Bobo had six aces, a kill and four blocks. Charlie Cassidy had five aces, a dig, a kill and a block. Sami Mathis had four digs, and Willow Stenberg had four kills. Abby Carroll had an ace and a dig. Macy Brooks had two aces, and Layla Arnold had a dig.
