McKENZIE (August 28) — In just their second game of the regular season, McKenzie High School's newest athletic team earned their first-ever win. The Lady Rebels hosted Clarksburg Thursday for a district volleyball game and swept the Lady Rockets in three sets.

In the first set, Clarksburg had an early lead, but McKenzie went on a 9-0 run and then pulled away for a 25-11 win.

The Lady Rebels would again erase an early deficit in the second set, but the Lady Rockets rallied to regain the lead. After the score was tied 22-22, McKenzie finished the set strong for a 25-23 advantage.

The third set began close, then saw big momentum swings in both directions. After another 22-22 tie, the Lady Rebels closed out another 25-23 set win to complete the sweep.

Lady Rebel Braylin Auvenshine had three aces, four kills, two blocks and two assists. Ashley Dunavant had five digs. Addison Milam had two kills and a block. Jaycee Stafford had seven kills. Kynlee Barden had three aces and two kills. Kynadie Brown had two aces and four assists. Molly French had five aces. Maggie Hall had two assists.

The varsity sweep followed a competitive JV match, which McKenzie won 3-2.

The Lady Rebels improve to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in district play.

McKenzie continues district play with two matches against JCM this week. They travel Tuesday and host Thursday, both days beginning with JV play at 5 p.m.
