Lady Rebels Edge Clarksburg in Extras

CLARKSBURG (April 23) — Clarksburg High School hosted McKenzie Thursday for a district softball contest. The host Lady Rockets scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but the Lady Rebels scored in the eighth and held on for an 8-7 win.

McKenzie struck first with four runs in the top of the second inning. Clarksburg answered with one in the home half, then scored two more in the third. The Lady Rebels padded their lead with a pair in the fourth. The Lady Rockets plated one in the sixth, but McKenzie did the same in the top of the seventh. Clarksburg rallied for three and a tie game in the bottom half, and McKenzie scored a go-ahead run in the eighth.

Lady Rebel Haylee Beard was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Braylin Auvenshine was 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and a stolen base. Maggie Hall was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Kailie Hudgins was 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Aurora Johnson was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Danie Parker was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Addyson Littleton was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Ridley Holt was 0-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Lady Rocket Carlie Swinford was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and two RBIs. Addison Milam was 2-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Molly Williams was 1-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Cari Glosson was 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Brooklyn Laws was 1-for-4. Alyssa Belew was 0-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Ivy Swinford was 0-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases.

Braylin Auvenshine got the start for McKenzie, allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits while walking four and striking out seven in seven innings. Aurora Johnson pitched the final frame and earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit with no walks.

Addison Milam took the loss for Clarksburg, allowing eight earned runs on ten hits while walking three and striking out four in five and a third innings. Carlie Swinford pitched the last two and two-thirds innings, allowing no runs or hits with two walks and a strikeout.
