Lady Rebels Look to Rebuild in 2024

The McKenzie High School Lady Rebel Soccer team is hard at work preparing for the upcoming fall season, which begins on Tuesday, August 13 as the team hosts Haywood at 5:30 p.m.

Head Coach Karlene Brown told The Banner, "Last season was a rough year. We had a lot of injuries… concussions, broken arms. One game, we had all three of our goalkeepers concussed. This was mid-season; we finished our season with field players playing in goal."

"So," she said, "This year's really a rebuilding season for us."

The team has five seniors (the same number as last year), but Brown says leaders are stepping up throughout the team.

She says the strength of the team is their teamwork. "Making each other well-rounded, making our teammates stronger."

"Our weakness is that we're a very young team, but I don't see it so much as a weakness. I see it as we're going to get better in the future."

The team plays in Class A Region 6 District 12 alongside Huntingdon, Westview and South Fulton. (Union City is also in the district, but does not field a girls soccer team this season.)

Seniors: Rachel Essary-0, Allie Walker-8, Kortnee Brown-15, Hannah Lee-16, Laken Fisher-20.

Juniors: Katelynn Essary-2, Sydney Rimmer-3, Katlynn Hoffman-6, Miley Prince-10.

Sophomores: Emma Haynes-1, Zayda Scates-4, Ava Hastings-9, Madison Hughes-19, Kailynn Cowan-21.

Freshmen: Kaydynce Barksdale-5, Stephanie Padilla-7, Bella Sass-11, Hannah Prince-12, Janyla Piro-13, Kynadie Brown-14, Addyson Littleton-17, Lili Simmons-18, Addison Courtney-22.
