Lady Rebels, Rockets Claim District Wins

McKENZIE (January 20) — McKenzie High School hosted Clarksburg Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests. The Lady Rebels stormed out to an early lead and cruised to an 88-32 win. The boys' contest saw momentum swings and lead changes throughout, but the Rockets finished strong for a 78-71 victory.
McKenzie Lady Rebels 88, Clarksburg Lady Rockets 32
McKenzie jumped out to a 30-7 lead after the opening frame, led by Jaycee Stafford with seven points. Braylin Auvenshine scored six on a pair of three-pointers. Molly French and Addyson Littleton each scored five, both with a three-pointer. Madeline Gottshall had five points, and Ava Hastings hit a three. Addison Milam hit a three for Clarksburg, and Cari Glosson and Carlie Swinford each had a pair.
The Lady Rebels had a 22-17 edge in the second quarter, led by Stafford with eleven points. French scored six on a pair of threes, Littleton also hit a three, and Gottshall added a pair. Glosson, Brooklyn Laws and Natalie Scott each scored four for the Lady Rockets. Milam hit another three, and MaKenna Bolen had a pair. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 52-24.
McKenzie had a 26-6 advantage in the third, led by Stafford with 16, including a trio of three-pointers. Littleton scored eight, and Gottshall added a pair. Milam and Swinford each hit a three for Clarksburg. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 78-30.
The Lady Rebels closed the win with a 10-2 tilt in a quick fourth, led by Alleigh Britt with five points, including a three-pointer. Zayda Scates also hit a three, and Aurora Johnson had a pair. Lady Rocket Star Dixon had a pair.
Lady Rebel Jaycee Stafford led all scorers with 34 points, including a trio of threes. Addyson Littleton scored 16 with a pair of threes, and Molly French had eleven points with a trio of three-pointers.
Addison Milam led Clarksburg with nine points on a trio of threes.
Rockets 78, Rebels 71
The first frame was a 12-12 wash. Cole Brown led McKenzie with seven points, including a three-pointer. Nolan Fawcett also hit a three, and Avery Brown had a pair. Trae Cobb led Clarksburg with six points on a pair of threes. Reagan Halter, Garrett Bartholomew and Gabriel Derryberry each had a pair.
The Rockets had a 22-20 edge in the second quarter, led by Weston Vestal with eight points. Derryberry and Clay Glosson each scored four, and Cobb and Jake Miller each hit a three. A. Brown led the Rebels with 13 points. C. Brown hit another three, and Cayden Ownby and Kason Brown each had a pair. At the half, the Rockets led 34-32.

McKenzie rallied down the stretch and the game went back-and-forth, but Clarksburg had the momentum at the end and the fourth was a 22-22 wash. Cobb led the Rockets with eleven, including a pair of threes. Vestal scored six, Kannon Hampton hit a three, and Glosson added a pair. A. Brown scored ten for the Rebels, including a pair of threes. C. Brown had five points with a three, Fawcett hit a three-pointer, and Vinson and K. Brown each added a pair.
Rebel Avery Brown led all scorers with 29 points, including a pair of threes. Cole Brown had 18 with a trio of threes.
Weston Vestal led Clarksburg with 23 points, including a three. Trae Cobb scored 23 with five three-pointers. Clay Glosson had 12 points.
