From the Mar 11, 2025 e-Edition
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (March 4) — In a season filled with resilience, grit, and undeniable heart, the Bethel Lady Wildcats capped off their magical run with a stunning 54-47 victory over the #3 ranked Campbellsville Tigers to claim the Mid-South Championship on Tuesday evening. It was a win that solidified Bethel’s journey from underdogs to champions, showcasing the best of collegiate basketball spirit.
The game started with both teams going toe-to-toe, finishing the first quarter tied at 17. Bethel’s defense began to tighten its grip in the second quarter, holding Campbellsville to just 12 points and securing a four-point lead at halftime. The Wildcats’ balanced attack was led by Madison Hart, who posted an impressive double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tigers clawed back in the fourth quarter, but Bethel’s poise under pressure proved too much. Campbellsville struggled offensively, shooting only 11.1% in the final period. The Lady Wildcats’ defense, anchored by steals from Micah Hart and blocks from Mikee Buchanan, stifled any hope of a comeback.
Madison Hart’s stellar performance was complemented by Micah Hart’s all-around contribution of 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks. Kalynn Howard added 6 points and 5 assists, while the Bethel bench provided crucial minutes and energy.
Bethel’s defense was the story of the game, forcing 14 turnovers and allowing only one three-pointer from Campbellsville, who shot just 6.7% from beyond the arc. Despite being outrebounded 33-31, the Wildcats made every possession count, converting 100% of their free throws to keep the Tigers at bay.
After that, it was time for Coach Chris Nelson and the Cats to cut down the nets.
The Lady Wildcats finished their night with a 23-7 record. The championship win was a testament to their growth as a team. Head Coach Chris Nelson praised his team’s resolve: “These girls never stopped believing. They embraced every challenge, and tonight they were rewarded for their perseverance.”
The Bethel community now turns its attention to the national stage, where the Wildcats hope to continue their remarkable run. As the vans rolled out of Bowling Green, the trophy sat proudly by the window, a gleaming reminder of what hard work and heart can achieve.
With the conference championship secured, Bethel will now await the decision of the national selection committee to determine whether the Lady Wildcats will host the first two rounds of the national tournament or if they will hit the road for their next challenge.
For Bethel, this championship is not just a win on the scoreboard but a victory for a team that believed in magic and made it real on the hardwood.
