Greetings,

Family Fun Fall Fling was a celebration of family, friends and community. Carnival games, bounce house fun, a clown, cotton candy, ice cream, a grill out, lemonade stand, Bingo and basket raffle were enjoyed by over 200 visitors.

We took many photos, and you can see them by checking out our Facebook page Lakeside Senior Living (profile picture is 3 sprigs of wheat logo).

A special thank you to the following vendors: Goodworks, Touching Hearts, Tennessee Quality Care, AHC/Unity Psych, Gentiva, Baptist Home Health & Hospice, Hometown Clinic, Henry County Medical Center and Henry County Health & Rehab.

Volunteers included: McKenzie Middle School cheerleaders and McKenzie High School girls basketball team, Mark Stafford, Rhonda Swafford, Cheryl King, Sandra Hernandez and Charlene Doyle, along with Lakeside staff who went above and beyond to make this day happen for the residents and their families. The smiles and laughter made it all worthwhile.

The following day, Sheila Rogers celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends, including her Lakeside family. Sheila, a vision in red, greeted each guest. Special guest Bo Solomon serenaded the crowd with birthday tunes. Bill Rogers Jr. escorted his mother to the dance floor and the two danced in unison to a beautiful piano waltz.

Thai Saul celebrated her 80th on the 8th and treated Lakeside staff and residents to an enormous decadent strawberry cake.

On the 20th, Peggy Work celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends. Her wish was to have some professional family photos taken to remember and treasure this special day. Her family did not disappoint, and many memories were made at her birthday celebration.

Other residents celebrating in October were Sue Blow, Carl Applegate and Imagene Brasfield. We love celebrating milestones in the lives of our residents.

We took our usual monthly outings but added a ride to the Amish farm for mums and pumpkins. We have a great venue set up for fall pictures, and you are more than welcome to stop in for a front porch visit. We also visited the 1000-acre lake for an Autumn Day picnic.

The Legacy Community Variety Show, formerly the Covenant Players, visited and entertained us with witty stories, mini skits and angelic singing. This talented group travels all over the U.S. and abroad, and once a year they make it to Bethel College and never forget Lakeside.

A TN SHIP inservice was held at Lakeside, and residents were given informative materials regarding Medicare coverage and benefits, along with warnings about potential scams and fraud and how to avoid falling prey to one of these situations. They will return on November 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to assist with Part D sign-up (open to public).

Our activity director went on vacation, and we appreciate all the volunteers who stepped up to fill in and assist with an activity for the residents.

Special guest Mayor Ryan Griffin called Bingo one afternoon. Extendicare hosted an ice cream social, Amedisys hosted a trivia and prize auction and AHC/Unity Psych played colored dimes for prizes. A few more friends came by to play games, perform music and craft welcome home signs.

We created a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs experience for Halloween trick-or-treaters.  “Once Upon a Time,” a Wicked Witch (Maxine Garner) with her magical mirror gave out shiny red apples. Snow White (Cris Stafford) posed for photos, and sweet gems (candy) were mined and handed out by a host of dwarves. At “The End,” a prince gave chocolatey kisses.

We had a fun night and enjoyed seeing all the kiddos.

We began November counting our blessings… Until next time.
