Greetings, residents kicked off the month with a breakfast outing to Bobby Gees and the delivery of the school supplies to McKenzie Elementary that we had purchased with our jewelry fundraiser. Another big outing for residents this month was the Annual trip to the Carroll County Senior Fair Day. All residents visited the vendor booths and walked away with a bag of goodies. Then we joined in the cake walk and Thai Saul, Clark Brown and Charles Garner won a sweet treat. Bingo Prizes and Raffle Drawings were won by Sue Smith, Lonnelle McMillin, Peggy Work and Clark Brown. Then the competitions started, and Clark Brown rolled up his pants and showed off his legs to win the Ugliest Men’s Legs Contest. Mrs. Peggy Brandon Work won Queen. Clark Brown and Charles Garner were runners up for King. We had worked up an appetite after all that competing, so we loaded up on some fair food and enjoyed the band before heading home. We traveled back to the Carroll County Civic Center the next week for the Senior Citizen Dance where a tribute was given for Donna Barlow who played a major role in the Senior Dances. There was a huge turnout and 3 tables full of food. We always have a good time dancing and watching all the line dancers and couples.

This is usually where I tell you about our monthly birthdays, but we didn’t have any in August, so we decided to celebrate everyone’s age on National Senior Citizens Day on August 21st. We have 18 residents in their 90s. 22 residents in their 80s, 6 residents in their 70s, 2 in their 60s and 1 in their 50s. We celebrated with Cupcakes donated by Ella Page, an 11-yr old student who volunteered to do this for Community Service. We appreciate her thinking of our residents. Our prayer is for all our residents to have a long and joyous life. Job 12:12 With the ancient is wisdom: and in length of days understanding.

Some other fun days we celebrated in August were Vinyl Record Day, Aviation Day, Banana Split Day and on National Kool-Aid Day we had a cooking class and made a 4-tier Decadent Strawberry Dessert that was served with our evening dinner.

We welcomed 3 new residents to our Lakeside family: Linda Brinkman, Barbara Stigall and Barabara Harrison. We are looking forward to getting to know these ladies and telling them all about us. The Skip- Bo and Rook players are always ready to recruit new players.

Until next time....
