Living At Lakeside News
From the Jan 27, 2026 e-EditionGreetings, they say April Showers bring May Flowers and if the amount of rain received this month is any indication our flower beds are going to be amazing. Residents are already getting pots, soil and bird feeders ready for some wonderful restful afternoons of front porch sitting. Despite all the storms we still managed to get out and about. We visited the Macedonia Community Center Cake Walk and Cookout, enjoyed a great band and brought home 8 delicious desserts won by residents and shared them with our next meal. Phyllis Maddox was the big winner that night, winning 3 times. We celebrated National Beer Day the best way we knew how with Frothy Cold Root Beer Floats. The Senior Movie showed Last Breath. If you’re a senior you should check this deal out; a movie, drink and popcorn for $5. The next one is on May 7th showing Working Man. We went to Sunrise Café for breakfast, we saw their generosity to the Senior Citizens Center with a new TV and wanted to show them some support. Residents were touched when Mckenzie 1st and 2nd graders sent us Valentine's cards and decided to return the gesture making them Easter cards and delivered them to Principal Tonya Brown to distribute. We also made cards for the residents of Huntingdon Health and Rehab.
The Legacy Players, visiting Bethel College, came to perform for us. This event happens once or twice a year and is always a treat as they perform improv skits and sing beautiful songs.
Students Avery Brown and Kason Brown partnered with residents for a baking session preparing 5 desserts for the cancer bake auction. We listened intensely and bid a few times the next day as the cakes were auctioned off. Staff member Lisa Griffin was the highest bidder on our Tiger Paw Coconut Pecan Bundt Cake with a Chocolate Cream Cheese Drizzle and resident Maxine Garner brought home our Banana Cake. We also made a Peach Cobbler, Ugly Duckling Apple Crumb Topping Cake and an Old Fashion Coca-Cola Cake.
Speaking of Lisa Griffin, Residents gathered around singing she’s a jolly good fellow and surprised her for Administrative Professionals Day. We showered her with a card, her favorite candy and some wish listed beauty products. She has been a faithful employee for 15 years and always goes above and beyond for residents, families and the Lakeside team.
There were many Hippity Hoppity events as well this month: celebrating with an Orange You Glad Its Carrot Day Game, filling and donating 300 candy eggs for The Waters Easter Egg Hunt, had a Bunny (Banana) Split Social, A Punch Board Easter Egg Hunt and an Easter Holiday Feast for residents and families to enjoy.
We always thank the people who volunteer at Lakeside but with it being National Volunteer Month we decided to step up our efforts with a "Thanks for Making the Time” themed brunch. Residents made and mailed clock-inspired invitations, made beautiful spring wreaths designed as clocks on the wall for décor and wrapped and gifted each volunteer a wall clock. The Kitchen Staff served fruit, pastries, sausage balls and juice. We hope they all know how much we appreciate their time.
Residents attended The World’s Largest Fish Fry Parade and watched eagerly for the Lakeside Sweetheart King (alt) Harry Walsh and Queen Peggy Work to pass by. Thank you to Gentiva Hospice for making us welcome at your Office and Lynn Brandon for Chauffeuring.
We celebrated 4 Birthdays: Peggy Cole, Trudy Bateman, Lance Kee and Nancy Page, Welcomed New Resident Joan Brown to our Lakeside Family and Bid Farewell to our dear friends Alberta McCulley and Faye Jones.
Until Next Time…
