Lakeside News
From the Oct 1, 2024 e-EditionGreetings,
Cooler weather made outings much more enjoyable.
Speaking of outings, we made a few this month. We attended the monthly senior citizen dance at the Carroll County Civic Center. They have started dance classes, and we enjoyed seeing the partners dancing in unison to music by the Trailblazers. We’re hoping to find an instructor to come teach us a dance or two. If interested in coming to Lakeside to teach us, call 731-352-4567.
We shopped at Dollar Tree, had an early morning breakfast at Bobby Gee’s and the ladies shopped for new fall frocks at Cato’s.
We went to McKenzie’s square for Nights on Broadway and enjoyed fresh air and wonderful music by the Longshot Band. (We might have visited a food truck, too.)
If you are hosting an event you think we would enjoy, please share the information with us. We love being out and about and part of the community.
Our residents like to stay styled and stylish and are always receiving compliments by visitors or when on outings about how great they look, and that is largely due to the wonderful beautician Annette Nash who has provided salon services for almost 13 years here at Lakeside.
Ms. Nash is well past retirement age herself as she is 81 years old. When I asked her why she was still working, she stated “I love to do what I do, I love being here at Lakeside and fixing my friends’ hair.” I loved how she referred to her clients as friends. That truly is the atmosphere here among residents, staff, volunteers and vendors. Everyone is considered family and friends.
Speaking of friends and family, we lost a dear one this past month. Mrs. Carlene Kelley went to her Heavenly Home and several residents attended her visitation to bid a final farewell. Our condolences went out to her family as she will be genuinely missed here at Lakeside.
We want to thank the staff at Baptist Home Health for coming out and hosting a Fall Prevention Class. A fall can be devastating to the senior population, and any tips or advice to keep them upright and balanced is much needed and appreciated.
With apple season upon us we took full advantage, and the ladies gathered for a cooking class. We made 64 homemade apple dumplings that were enjoyed as dessert with the evening meal, and you know we had to top off this yummy, warm, sweet treat with a bit of ice cream. We played an apple-picking game with prizes being anything that pairs with an apple such as caramel, brown sugar or cinnamon treats. We also had a Saturday porch snack of fried apple pies and apple juice.
The ladies also made box dinners for the Mckenzie Middle School cheerleaders on 8th Grade Recognition Night, which was their last home game of the season. Congratulations on the team win that night.
Activity Director Sheila Willis had a birthday on September 5 and treated everyone to cupcakes and banana pudding ice cream. You read that right: banana pudding ice cream. We also celebrated three residents at our monthly birthday party: Mary Lee Sharp, Earl Ray Kee and James Pitt, and we welcomed three new residents, Steve Jackson, Janet Duck and Adell Rich.
We are making big plans for our Family Fun Fall Fling. It will be Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. If you would like more information about attending or volunteering, please give us a call. I can hardly wait to tell you about the great time we are going to have… Until next time.
