Leland Keith Johnson, 1939 — 2025

MARIETTA, Ga. — On November 28, 2025, Leland “Keith” Johnson, 85, of Marietta died after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in McKenzie, Keith grew up with strong roots in his community and a lifelong love of learning. He completed his early education in McKenzie. He graduated from McKenzie High School with the Class of 1957.
After graduation, he attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and received his bachelor’s degree from Bethel College. He later continued his education at the University of Georgia, completing a Master’s degree that helped shape his long and accomplished career.
Keith began his professional life teaching chemistry at Athens Technical College, where he met the love of his life, Janet. The two later moved to Atlanta, where Keith dedicated many years to serving the State of Georgia. He worked as a director in education and economic development, contributing to programs and initiatives that helped strengthen communities across the state.
After retiring in 2002, Keith embraced a quieter but fulfilling life. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, tackling home projects.
Proceeded in death by his parents, Carl and Maurine Burrow Johnson, and grandparents, Quincy and Mae Burrow and Marcus and Dora Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Johnson; his son, Michael Johnson; his beloved grandchildren, Katelyn and Owen; and his sister, Gayle Britton (Bruce) of Smyrna.
Keith will be remembered for his steady kindness, his dedication to education and service, and the deep love he held for his family. His life touched many, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him.+
