Local Athletes Excel at State Senior Olympics

CHAPEL HILL/FRANKLIN (June 18-22) — Four local athletes brought home hardware from Tennessee Senior Olympics events last week.

Tommy Putman earned the silver medal in the 80-84 age group in the 18-hole golf tournament at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill on Wednesday.

Over the weekend, Chris Edlin, Charleace Edlin and David Wood competed in multiple events in the track and field championships in Franklin.

Chris Edlin (60-64) won gold in the Basketball Free Throw Competition, silver in the Discus Throw, gold in the 1500-meter Power Walk and silver in the Softball Distance Throw. His time of 9:09 in the power walk was the fastest overall in all age brackets.

Charleace Edlin (70-74) earned gold in the 50-meter Sprint, 100-meter, 4 x 100 Relay, Softball Throw, Javelin, Shot Put and Discus.

The Edlins each qualified for the National Senior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, in late July.

David Wood (70-74) won gold in the 800-meter Sprint, silver in the 1500-meter Run, silver in the 400-meter and bronze in the 200-meter Run.
