Local Students Graduate From MTSU
From the Mar 25, 2025 e-EditionMURFREESBORO (March 14) — Middle Tennessee State University congratulates the students who received their degrees at its fall 2024 commencement ceremony. MTSU’s fall commencement saluted members of the final Class of 2024 during two ceremonies in Murphy Center to confer their degrees.
Local residents among the fall graduates included:
Shelby Davis of McKenzie, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies.
Kira Fullington of Lavinia, who earned a Master of Science in Media and Communication.
Darren Kirkland of McKenzie, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Video & Film Production.
Tianna McCutcheon of Paris, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.
Ava Parrott of Martin, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science.
Savannah Sutton of Huntingdon, who earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing.
Founded in 1911 as one of three state normal schools for teacher training, Middle Tennessee State University is one of the oldest and largest undergraduate universities in the state of Tennessee.

McKenzie School Board Approves $15.7 Million Budget
McKENZIE (July 7) — The McKenzie Special School District Board of Education approved a $15.7 million budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year during a brief meeting Tuesday afternoon. Also approved was the certified property tax rate of $.7483 per $100 assessed value, unchanged from last year. The tax rate is distributed between the General Purpose Fund ($.4898) and the Debt Service Fund ($.2585).
