Local Schools Excel at State Cross Country Meet
Dresden, McKenzie, Huntingdon Runners Earn Medals

MEMPHIS (November 6) — Runners from several local schools excelled at the TSSAA Class A State Cross Country Championships Thursday at Shelby Farms Park, earning numerous medals and high team finishes. Dresden earned both the girls' and boys' individual championships.
In the girls' meet, the McKenzie High School team finished in third with an average time of 22:42, behind champions University School of Johnson City (21:21) and runners-up University High School (21:48). Camden Central High School finished in sixth (24:53), and Dresden High School was eighth (25:19). 15 teams competed in the girls' meet.
Out of 114 individuals, the champion was Dresden's Hudson McDaniel (19:12.20). McKenzie's Abigail Wallace was the runner-up (19:30.60), and her teammate Autumn Haywood finished eighth (21:14:60). Other area medalists (top 15) were Camden's Kayedence Christopher (11th), Dresden's Bailey Warbington (14th) and Union City's Ainsley Sadler (15th).
Just outside of medal contention were Hollow Rock-Bruceton's Madison Holder (17th) and McKenzie's Bella Sass (18th).
Rounding out McKenzie's competitors were Sophie Dameron (47th), Ava Hastings (61st), Gracie Aird (63rd) and Morgan Little (87th).
Dresden's team also included Alivia Rainey (55th) and Tess Ogg (72nd).
University School of Johnson City (17:33) and University High School (17:51) also finished as champions and runners-up, respectively, in the boys' meet. Union City took third (18:07), while Dresden was fifth (18:18) and Huntingdon earned sixth (18:32). 16 teams competed in the boys' meet.
Out of 127 individuals, the champion was Dresden's Vaughn Bounds (16:18.79). Huntingdon's Blaine Todd finished third (16:32.16). Greenfield's Deegan Arant earned sixth (16:47.23), and Huntingdon's Shawn Simpson was ninth (17:01.39). Other area medalists (top 15) were Union City's Rushdon Howell (12th) and Woodrow McKinnis (13th).
Rounding out Dresden's competitors were Carson Brownlow Rendon (21st), Connor Evans (34th), Miles Cary (47th), Carter Oliver (49th), Christian Pash (58th) and Asher Matheny (97th).
Huntingdon's team also included Jaden Toler (46th), Carson Watters (63rd), Zachary Watkins (64th), Charlie Logan (65th) and Cody Partridge (99th).
