10 Years Ago — Madison Graves placed third in the Eighth District 2014 Congressional Art Competition. Madison Received this award from Congressman Stephan Fincher for her piece titled “Get a Grip.”
Collin Smith was greeted by all his celebrating teammates after he hit a home run against Central High School.
25 Years Ago — The Kelly Miller Bros. Circus presented two shows after McKenzie Lions Club sponsored them for a showing.
Ken Reitz signed an autograph for little league player at the dedication of the Kelley Sports Complex.
50 Years Ago — Mary Ann Kirk, Marion Cawood, Marsh Hudson, Robert Steobel, and Thomas Kartak performed at the Henry M. Dickey Fine Arts Auditorium on Bethels College Campus. They performed Under the direction of Henry Fusner. The two Operas presented that night were Mozart’s “Impresario” and the contemporary opera by Thomas Pasatieri, “La Divina.”
* McKenzie’s art classes focused on a new viewpoint of the art around them. They learned about Greek and Roman art as well as the Renaissance. They studied art to get a new perspective on their creations. Several of these students’ artworks were exhibited in the scholastic student art competition at Southland Mall in Memphis.
75 Years Ago — B-R-Y-A-N-T-S Flower Shop put an ad in the newspaper for Mother’s Day. They believed flowers were the way to express love for a mother.
* McKenzie Park Theatre had a showing. They played Apartment for Peggy, who killed Doc Robbin, Here Comes Trouble, and Sealed Verdict, along with other Cartoons and News.
