10 Years Ago — Bethel University along with Henry County Alliance and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce co-hosted the first Bassmaster National High School Championship. Dale Kelley, Garry Mason, and Kenny Louden with the winning team from Pennsylvania Garrett Enders, Nick Osman and their boat captain.
* Local volunteers helped pick vegetables for the hungry. Two-year-old Zoey Watson and her aunt Emily Lowe brought an empty basket to be filled with corn.
25 Years Ago — The Carroll County Developmental Center held a reception to honor its board and staff members. Fran Ridley was awarded the Employee-of-the-Year award by Barbara Gray.
* The Wildcat golf team, under the direction of Dr. Jerry Wilcoxson, signed three new team members, among them were Aaron Griffith and Gabe Dodson.
50 Years Ago — A Little Fisherman Haul ‘Em was in the Fishing Rodeo. 9-12 Division boys and girls were Tim Barker, Dennis Garrett, Ricky McMackin, Diane Trull, Ann Brooks and Kim Coleman.
* Karen Jean Morrison, Miss U.S.A., represented our country at the Miss Universe Pageant.
* A luncheon was held in Paris to honor Mrs. Blanton. This was one of the largest turnouts for the wife of the gubernatorial candidate.
75 Years Ago — E.R. Adcock, N.C. & St.L. Foreman wrote a story of Hollow Rock. The story was about the rock the town was named after.
* Park Theater showed “Nightime in NEVADA,” starring Roy Pours, “Yellow Sky,” starring Gregory Peck and Ann Baxter, and “The Snake Pit” starring Oliva De Havilland.
* The Timken Roller Bearing Company made a blueprint for a heavy-duty lift truck. They answered the call from the industry and made a lift truck large enough to lift and carry a freight car.
