McKenzie Alumni Association Plans First Homecoming Event
From the Jun 18, 2024 e-EditionMcKENZIE — The recently formed McKenzie High School Alumni Association is planning its first alumni event to coincide with the annual MHS Homecoming in October.
Class reunions, decades reunions, and other informal events are planned for Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5.
Brad Camp, a member of the Alumni Association said many activities will center around MHS’ Homecoming, including alumni in the annual Homecoming Parade. Last year, a fewer alumni, who were past homecoming queens rode in the parade. This year, the Alumni Association hopes to had some former Mr. and Miss McKenzies, and possibly the two Mr. Footballs and Miss Basketball in the parade. Convertible cars are needed to help with this project.
At the Friday evening ballgame against Perry County, the MHSAA is urging many social gatherings during pre-game at the stadium. It’s a meet-and-greet situation, in which, specific decades or classes gather and then attend the ballgame.
On Saturday, the MHSAA is encouraging alumni to host reunions of a particular class, multiple classes or a decade.
Friday, October 4: 8 a.m.: MHSAA Golf Scramble at Carroll Lake Golf Club. Event details are forthcoming. 12:30 p.m.: MHS Homecoming Parade in Downtown McKenzie. Various MHS alumni will be spotlighted in the parade. 4 p.m.: McKenzie High Alumni Decades Reunion Tailgate Party at Rebel Stadium. Areas will be designated for alumni by decades, as well as an area for faculty and staff. All MHS alumni and their family members, as well as former and present faculty and staff members of McKenzie Schools are invited. Alumni will have the opportunity to join the MHSAA at the tailgate event. Additional monetary donations are also accepted for the benefit of the organization. Everyone is encouraged to bring a lawn chair, break out your favorite McKenzie Rebel gear, and enjoy reconnecting with classmates from your days at MHS! Food and beverages will be served at the event. Please RSVP with your graduation year (or if you are a faculty/staff member), as well as the number of people in your party by Monday, September 16. Saturday, October 5: All MHS classes that are celebrating milestone reunion years in 2024 are encouraged to consider holding their class reunions on Saturday. Other classes are also encouraged to plan gatherings. Class reunion information and details are welcome to be posted on the MHSAA page. Local restaurants and other businesses welcome all MHS alumni during the weekend! The MHSAA will have a t-shirt sale from August 1-31 via Facebook.
