McKenzie DECA Competitors Return from International Competition

McKENZIE (May 20) — Four of the five DECA students who competed at the international convention in Orlando spoke to the McKenzie Rotarians about their experiences at the competition.

The students attending were Carlton Townes, Tobey Brooks, Kailynn Cowan, Gracie Aird, and Brody Berryhill. Townes served as a Tennessee state officer. These five advanced to the international competition, which hosted 19,000 students.

Their teacher, Brittany Colotta, accompanied the students to the competitions in Nashville and Orlando.

The business club was established in the 1960s, with Nancy Holland as the initial instructor. Susan Dyer, the most recent previous instructor, taught Colotta when she was a student. Dyer currently oversees Career-Technical Education for the three schools.

The skills learned during the classes and competitions are lifetime skills, said Dyer.
