McKenzie Elementary Celebrates Carnival Day, $25,000 TVA Grant
From the May 19, 2026 e-Edition
McKENZIE (May 18) — McKenzie Elementary School kicked off the last week of the school year Monday with Carnival Day. Kids enjoyed a full day of water slides, carnival games, movies, Bingo and more. It was also an opportunity to celebrate a $25,000 TVA Uplift grant the school was recently awarded.
Several TVA and Carroll County Electric Department officials were on hand for a check presentation as the kids had a blast behind them on the water slides. TVA provides additional funds for schools to celebrate their grants, and MES used the funds to add the water slides to Carnival Day.
The students rotated between activities throughout the day.
A plethora of carnival games were played in the front parking lot. In the gym, kids enjoyed a movie and popcorn. In the cafeteria, Bingo was played. On the lawn outside were the water slides, and a picnic lunch was served. In a different area outside, kids had slushes and played more games, such as the popular Granny Pants, where kids try to throw beach balls into their teacher's oversized "granny pants."
The TVA grant was originally announced during field day a few weeks earlier. MES will use the funds to upgrade the gymnasium.
