TSSAA State Cross Country Championship
Wallace, Simpson Earn Medals as McKenzie, Huntingdon Runners Excel
From the Nov 12, 2024 e-EditionHENDERSONVILLE (November 7-8) — The 2024 TSSAA State Cross Country Championships were last week at Sanders Ferry Park. McKenzie’s girls team, Huntingdon’s boys team and one individual Huntingdon girl qualified.
Lady Rebel Abigail Wallace and Mustang Shawn Simpson earned medals.
In a field of 241 individuals, Wallace placed fifth with a time of 18:55.41, a fraction of a second behind fourth and less than 40 seconds behind the champion.
Huntindgon’s Quinn Kelley finished 52nd with a time of 21:34.47.
Other McKenzie competitors included Autumn Haywood (98), Bella Sass (104), Gracie Aird (179), Morgan Little (209), Madeline Gottshall (216) and Ryleigh Rogers (217).
Out of 30 teams, the Lady Rebels were 16th.
In the boys field of 255, Simpson earned 14th with a time of 16:30.95, less than 50 seconds behind the champion.
Other Huntingdon competitors included Blaine Todd (51), Cole Chafin (112), Carson Watters (146), Zachary Watkins (147), E.J. Lewis (177) and Cody Wilson (197).
Among 31 teams, the Mustangs finished 14th.
