McKenzie Library’s Summertime Fun Continues
From the Jun 16, 2026 e-Edition
McKENZIE — McKenzie Memorial Library’s dinosaur-themed summer reading program continued throughout the week, with events such as “Blooming Poems,” “Dapper Dinos,” “Minecraft Archaeology” and “Tales at 10.”
On Tuesday, attendees were able to take shelter from the rain outside and create origami fortune tellers with library staff during Blooming Poems. Kids created poems by writing on the paper flaps of the fortune tellers.
Attendees could visit the library at any time during the day Thursday during Dapper Dinos to paint masquerade masks fitting for the dapper-est of dinosaurs.
Saturday’s Minecraft Archaeology tournament put participants’ observational skills to the test, challenging them to find items on a check list in randomly-generated Minecraft worlds. Items were themed around “Uncover Past Civilizations” and “Unearthing the Hidden Truths of the Blocky Worlds.”
Dakota Cowan won the Minecraft Archaeology tournament. Cowan’s 45 points put her “squarely in the lead,” according to Assistant Library Director Adora Carty.
Monday morning, library staff read dinosaur tales with attendees during “Tales at Ten.”
McKenzie Memorial Library continues to unearth summertime fun this week with “Triassic Tie-Dye” at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18; “What in Tarnation?” at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20; “Tales at Ten” at 10 a.m. Monday, June 22; and “Unearthing the Magic!” at McKenzie’s Farmer’s Market at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 23.
McKenzie Memorial Library is located at 15 Broadway Street, McKenzie, Tenn. It is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed Friday, June 19, in observation of Juneteenth.
