McKENZIE (June 18, 20) — McKenzie Memorial Library's summer readers got crafty last week for two events, continuing the summer program's dinosaur-themed "Unearth a Story."

Thursday, the kids gathered in front of the library to make their own tie-dyed shirts during "Triassic Tie-Dye."

Saturday, youngsters convened upstairs for "What in Tarnation?," where they made their own "tar" (more commonly known as slime) and learned about how dinos would get stuck in tar and preserved for archeologists to later discover.

The library's summer events continue with "Prehistoric Pals" at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 25 and the weekly "Tales at Ten" on Monday, June 29 at 10 a.m.

Additionally, McKenzie Memorial Library encourages its summer readers to attend the Storybook Stroll at Discovery Park in Union City on Saturday, June 27. The event is from 10 a.m. to noon, with admission ending at 11:45 a.m.

In partnership with the Obion River Regional Libraries, this event transforms Dinosaur Hall into a vibrant hub of literacy-focused activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity.

Guests will explore booths hosted by libraries from across Northwest Tennessee, each offering hands-on activities that encourage children to engage with stories in new and exciting ways.

This event is free for children who participate in their local library’s summer reading program. Tickets must be obtained through participating libraries and presented at the front ticket counter on the day of the event. Discovery Park does not distribute tickets.
