From the Dec 16, 2025 e-EditionAttempted Online Scam — A McKenzie female resident received an online request to send money for an unnamed orphanage through a TikTok message from a person who identified as a female. When the local resident refused to send $25, the person who requested the donation threatened bodily harm and sent graphic images depicting dead bodies. The local lady contacted authorities and was advised to block the suspected scammer. Authorities stated there is credible information on which to act.
Report of Possible Kidnapping — McKenzie Police responded to a residence on December 9, in relation to a possible kidnapping/assault as reported by a third party.
Officer Matthew Cunningham said when they arrived at the Florida Avenue residence, the front door was padlocked from the inside. One male resident was attempting to remove the newly installed lock; however, the key did not work. Police helped with opening the door.
Another male was sitting on the sofa. He stated the lock was placed on the door around 1 a.m., and he was verbally told that no one was entering or leaving the residence. After questioning both subjects, no arrests were made.
Vandalism — A Highland Drive resident reported that someone threw a liquid on his automobile while it was parked at his residence.
Officer Jeff Winberry stated the attempted vandalism caused no damage; however, extra police patrols would be provided.
Warrant Service — Steven Christopher Cole, of Forrest Avenue, McKenzie, was arrested on an active arrest warrant issued by Carroll County General Sessions Court.
Officer Matthew Cunningham said Cole was arrested on December 12 at his residence and transported to Carroll County Jail.
