From the May 14, 2024 e-EditionDriving Without License, Insurance — Rigoberto Chavez Otero, 28, Dresden, was charged with Driving Without a License, Violation of Financial Responsibility and Failure to Maintain Lane on May 12.
Officer Jason Artymovich responded to a convenience store, where Otero’s vehicle had struck another and caused damage. Otero admitted he was at fault and did not have an American driver’s license nor insurance. He was cited into General Sessions Court and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
Driving on a Suspended License, Violation of Financial Responsibility — Derontra Antonio Byrd, 25, Cherry Avenue, McKenzie was charged with Driving on a Suspended License, Violation of Financial Responsibility, and Violation of the Light Law on May 8.
Officer Dustin McClure stopped Byrd’s vehicle for violation of the light law. A check of Byrd’s information revealed the suspended status out of North Carolina. Byrd could not verify he had insurance on the vehicle. He was cited into Carroll County Jail with 10 days to report.
Assault, Vandalism, Sale of Controlled Substance — Two subjects were arrested after an altercation on May 9.
Julius Dean Owens, 25, Kemp Street, McKenzie and Ja’Quez Weatherford, 20, Forrest Avenue, McKenzie face charges after police were dispatched to Kemp Street for a possible assault.
Officer Matthew Cunningham filed the report stating he and Sergeant Darren Davis arrested both subjects. The report indicates Weatherford walked to Owens house after Owens reportedly drove past Weatherford’s home several times and blew the horn. Weatherford reportedly beat on the Owens’ house door and wanted Owens to exit and fight.
Owens said Weatherford punched Owens’ car causing damage to the hood.
Weatherford was arrested for Simple Assault and Vandalism.
Owens was arrested after officers learned of drugs were being concealed during the ordeal. Two backpacks were located with approximately one pound of marijuana, digital scales, and 18 $20 bills were on Owens, who was charged with Possession of Schedule VI drugs.
Public Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct — Perry E. Phillips, 64, Florida Avenue, McKenzie was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication on May 11.
Officer Dalton Raspberry responded to the call and located Phillips walking near Florida and Bailey streets. He was impaired and smell of alcohol. He was also yelling obscenities. He was transported to Carroll County Jail.
Domestic Assault — Amber Boyd, 19, Park Street, McKenzie was charged with Domestic Assault on May 9.
Officer Dustin McClure filed a report indicating Ms. Boyd assaulted a family member, who defended himself. Ms. Boyd was transported to the hospital to treat her injuries, where she was arrested. She was on probation for another assault charge from a January 3, 2024 case.
Violation of Probation — Brandon L. Leach, 39, Walnut Avenue, McKenzie, was arrested on charges of Violation of Probation on May 10.
Officer Dalton Raspberry, Assistant Chief Trey Boucher and Lt. Brister served an outstanding warrant on Leach at a Walnut Avenue address. The warrant was out of Gibson County.
Service of Warrant — Jonathan T. Stanley, 44, Martin, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Weakley County on charges of Aggravated Sexual Battery and Rape of a Child.
Sergeant Cody Coleman went to a Cherry Street address and made contact with Stanley. He was arrested and McKenzie Police Department transferred custody to a Weakley County unit at the former Not Hig’s restaurant.
