From the Jun 24, 2025 e-EditionDUI — Matthew Scott Celusta, 27, Bethel Court, McKenzie, was charged with DUI on June 22.
Officer Steven Scott stopped a scooter that Celusta was operating as Celusta was at the pickleball court. Celusta did poorly on a field sobriety test and was arrested for DUI-First Offense.
Assault of a First Responder — Anthony Haynes, Jr., 47, Campbell Avenue, McKenzie, was charged with Resisting Arrest and Assault of a First Responder on June 21.
Officer Dustin McClure was aware of an outstanding warrant against Haynes for failure to pay child support. When Officer McClure attempted to arrest Haynes, he fled on foot. Haynes got inside a truck in an attempt to hide. When the officer attempted to arrest Haynes, he pushed the officer. When he was handcuffed, Haynes began to pass out and seize. EMS arrived and Narcan was administered by officers and EMS. He was transported to the helipad and airlifted to a Jackson hospital.
Driving on Suspended License — Taurus Demone Taylor, 43, Cherrywood Avenue, McKenzie, was charged with Driving on a Suspended License, Speeding, and Violation of Financial Responsibility on June 20.
Officer Dustin McClure stopped Taylor’s vehicle for speeding and determined that his license was suspended and he did not have insurance. He was cited into court on the three charges.
DUI — Michael A. Williams, 51, Elwood Drive, McKenzie was charged with DUI and Driving on a Revoked License on June 18.
Officer Matthew Cunningham and Officer Batchelder and Sergeant Coleman responded to an automobile in a ditch on State Route 22. Williams was found walking and he matched the description of the driver. Field sobriety tests were administered and resulted in Williams being arrested for DUI.
Driving on Suspended License — Kimberly Dawn Mercer, 39, Highway 22, McKenzie, was charged with Driving on a Suspended License, Speeding and Violation of Financial Responsibility on June 17.
Officer Dustin McClure stopped Mercer’s vehicle, which was speeding, and determined her license was suspended and she had no insurance. She was cited into court on all three charges.
Driving on Suspended License - Fourth Offense — Chasidy Shanice Robinson, 28, Elm Street, McKenzie, was charged with Driving on Suspended License-Fourth Offense, Failure to Appear, and Violation of Financial Responsibility on June 17.
Officer Dustin McClure stopped Robinson’s vehicle because of non-functioning brake lights. The officer determined she was wanted on a warrant out of Jackson. She was charged as noted above and transported to Carroll County Jail for Jackson Police Department.
Vandalism — McKenzie’s Splash Pad’s fence was damaged in the southwest corner. Officers discovered the damage when they checked the facility at 10:22 p.m. on June 15. The damage is estimated at $1,200.
