McKenzie Rotary Club Hosts two Speaker Programs

McKENZIE (August 27) — The Rotary Club of McKenzie hosted two guest speaker programs on Tuesday, August 27.
Kyle Spurgeon, president and CEO of the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce, along with Lindsey Dawkins, chief of staff of the Jackson Chamber spoke about Jackson, its service is a regional hub of commerce, and its industrial development successes, of which the latest is Dixie, the company that makes paper plates and drinkware.
Jackson is working toward a recruiting a Great Wolf Lodge. Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. is a chain of indoor water parks. The company owns and operates its family resorts under the Great Wolf Lodge brand. In addition to a water park, each resort features restaurants, arcades, spas, and children’s activities. It is estimated the tourist attraction will more than double Jackson’s tourism traffic.
The two Chamber representatives said Jackson supports regional project, noting that everyone benefits from regional development.
The second program for Rotary’s noon meeting was Jim McCoy, area supervisor for the U.S. Forestry Service, whose duties include the management of Land Between the Lakes.
The federally-owned LBL is located between the Kentucky Lake (on theTennessee River) and Lake Barkley (on the Cumberland River). It’s nearest entrance from Carroll County is just beyond the Ned McWherter Bridge over the Tennessee River at Paris Landing.
LBL stretches from Tennessee into Kentucky. Some 200 employees and volunteers help manage and maintain the penisula.
This natural playground features vast forests, open lands and streams. Adventurers will also discover attractions, camping, trails, wildlife and historical exhibits. Families enjoy the diverse educational and recreational facilities such as the Woodlands Nature Station and the Homeplace 1850s, plus the developed RV campgrounds and more primitive campgrounds.
