McKenzie Routs Stewart County, 9-1

Rebel Rex Thompson threw an inning and a third of relief in McKenzie's big win.

McKENZIE (March 17) — McKenzie Middle School hosted Stewart County Tuesday for a battle of Rebels. McKenzie set the tone with a huge first inning and coasted to a 9-1 victory.

McKenzie plated six in the bottom of the first frame and tacked on three more in the fourth. Stewart County mustered a single run in the top of the fifth.

McKenzie's Seth Stafford was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Lane Brown was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Jake Ghyers was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Owen Epperson was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Lawson Ownby was 1-for-1. Dierks Ghyers was 0-for-1 with two walks, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Rex Thompson was 0-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Jackson Barden was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.

Starting pitcher Kenden Coleman earned the win for McKenzie, allowing four hits while walking two and striking out five in three shutout innings. Rex Thompson threw an inning and a third of relief, allowing one earned run on no hits while walking four and striking out two. Heath Johnson recorded the final two outs with no hits, a walk and a strikeout.
