McKENZIE (June 7) — The McKenzie Senior Citizens Center hosted its third annual shrimp boil and block party Saturday.

The event is a fundraiser for the center's annual banquet each summer.

Verne Plank of Jackson, son of center member Mabel Plank, donated and cooked the shrimp, crawfish and more for the event. Members provided desserts.

W.O. Warren Drive was closed for the block party, which featured music by Steve Bomar, Carl Byars, Mike Wilson and Steve Morris.

Door prizes were given, and a silent auction featured a handmade afghan by Ruth McElroy and several handmade crafts by Mabel Plank.

The event was the first opportunity for many to see recent improvements at the center such as interior painting and repairs to windows and flooring.

Senior Center President Carol Armpreist told The Banner over 80 dinners were sold. Leftovers were donated to the McKenzie police and fire departments.
