McKenzie Sweeps West Carroll
From the Jan 7, 2025 e-EditionMcKENZIE (January 3) — McKenzie High School kicked off 2025 with a pair of home basketball wins against West Carroll. The Lady Rebels had a strong first half en route to a 59-25 win, and the Rebels set the tone early in a 64-33 victory.
McKenzie Lady Rebels 59, West Carroll Lady War Eagles 25
The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the opening frame and shut out West Carroll 15-0 in the second for a 28-5 halftime lead.
Scoring for both teams picked up in the third as McKenzie had a 21-13 advantage. The Lady Rebels sealed the win with a 10-7 edge in the fourth.
Lady Rebel Jacey Stafford led all scorers with 21 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Braylin Auvenshine scored 14 with a three. Molly French had seven points with a pair of threes. Ava Hastings and Sophie Pate each scored six points on a pair of three-pointers. Gracie Aird scored five points.
Chloe Rimmer led West Carroll with nine points. Gracelyn Vernon scored six with a three-pointer. Hailey Mitchell had four points, and Aubrey Hammett scored three. Abbi O’Bryan had a pair, and Taylor Robinson hit a free throw.
Rebels 64, War Eagles 33
McKenzie had a 16-9 lead after the first frame and a 21-8 advantage in the second quarter for a 37-17 lead at the half.
The Rebels outscored West Carroll 20-11 in the third and had a 7-5 edge in the fourth.
Rebel Tate Surber led all scorers with 31 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Landon Brown scored ten with a pair of threes, and Carter Kee had six points on a pair of threes. Cole Brown scored four points. Eli Vinson and Nolan Fawcett each hit a three, and Avery Brown also scored three points. Craegen Travis and Kason Brown each had a pair.
Chandler Rimmer led the War Eagles with 14 points, including a three-pointer. Skyler Wilhite scored eight with a pair of threes. Kayden Melton had six points, and Demarion Gilbert scored four. Trey Williamson hit a free throw.
