McKenzie Sweeps West Carroll

McKENZIE (January 6) — McKenzie High School hosted West Carroll Tuesday for a pair of basketball contests and earned a sweep. A strong second quarter carried the Lady Rebels to a 50-31 win, while the Rebels pulled away in the third frame for a 78-34 victory.

McKenzie Lady Rebels 50, West Carroll Lady War Eagles 31

The Lady Rebels had a 13-8 lead after the opening frame, led by Jaycee Stafford with ten points. Ava Hastings hit a three-pointer. Aubrey Hammett led West Carroll with five points, including a three. Hailey Mitchell scored three points.

McKenzie pulled away with a 14-4 advantage in the second quarter, led by Braylin Auvenshine with five points, including a three-pointer. Stafford scored four, Molly French hit a three, and Madeline Gottshall had a pair. Mitchell and Taylor Robinson each had a pair for West Carroll. At the half, McKenzie led 27-12.

The Lady Rebels enjoyed a 14-9 tilt in the third, led by Stafford with nine points. Auvenshine scored four, and Gottshall hit a free throw. Lady War Eagle Gracelyn Vernon scored five with a three. Marissa Mueller had three points, and Hammett hit a freebie. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 41-21.

West Carroll had a 10-9 edge in the fourth, led by Hammett with four points. Kinsley Poff hit a three, Abbi O'Bryan had a pair, and Mitchell hit a free throw. Stafford scored four for McKenzie, Gottshall hit a three, and Aurora Johnson had a pair.

Lady Rebel Jaycee Stafford led all scorers with 27 points, including 11 of 12 from the line. Braylin Auvenshine scored nine with a three-pointer.

Aubrey Hammett led West Carroll with ten points, including a three.

Rebels 78, War Eagles 34

McKenzie had a 16-10 lead after the first frame, led by Nolan Fawcett with six points on a pair of threes. Cole Brown scored four, and Avery Brown hit a three. Eli Vinson had a pair, and Kason Brown hit a free throw. War Eagles Demarion Gilbert and Bryler O'Neal each hit a three-pointer, and Isaiah Snyder and Mason Taylor each had a pair.

The Rebels had a 14-11 edge in the second quarter, led by K. Brown with six points. Fawcett hit another three, and A. Brown also scored three points. C. Brown and Cooper Davidson each hit a free throw. Taylor and Trey Williamson each scored four for West Carroll, and O'Neal hit another three-pointer. At the half, the Rebels led 30-21.

McKenzie pulled away with a 27-9 advantage in the third, led by Fawcett with eleven points, including a trio of threes. Cayden Ownby scored six. C. Brown and A. Brown each had five points, C. Brown with a three. Taylor led West Carroll with four points. Gilbert scored three, and O'Neal added a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 57-30.

The Rebels capped the win with a 21-4 tilt in the fourth, led by Parker Ross and Sammy Willen with five points each, both with a three-pointer. Fawcett hit another three, and Malaki Harris also had three points. C. Brown and Ethan Bradberry each had a pair, and Vinson hit a freebie. Gilbert and Taylor each added a pair for West Carroll.

Rebel Nolan Fawcett led all scorers with 23 points, including seven three-pointers. Cole Brown scored 12 with a three, and Avery Brown had eleven points, also with a three-pointer.

Mason Taylor led the War Eagles with 12 points.
