McKenzie Swept at JCS

JACKSON (November 26) — McKenzie High School traveled to Jackson Christian School Tuesday for a pair of basketball contests. The Lady Rebels kept the game in reach until the Lady Eagles pulled away in the fourth for a 58-43 win. The Eagles built their lead in the second quarter en route to a 66-39 win over a six-man Rebel squad.

The Lady Eagles led 18-11 after the opening frame, led by Gibson Boykin with a dozen points. Blakely Melton scored four, and Riley Bradford had a pair. Lady Rebel Jaycee Stafford scored five, and Sophie Pate and Molly French each hit a three-pointer.

McKenzie cut the deficit with a 15-13 edge in the second quarter, led by Stafford and Addison Milam with a pair of three-pointers each. French also hit a three. Carly Holt scored six for JCS, Boykin had four points, and Meredith Melton hit a three. At the half, the Lady Eagles led 31-26.

JCS enjoyed an 11-9 tilt in the third. Tess Little and Jenna Tinsley each hit a three, and B. Melton also scored three points. Bradford added a pair. Pate hit a three for McKenzie, and Stafford also scored three points. French added a pair, and Ava Hastings hit a free throw. Entering the final frame, JCS led 42-35.

The Lady Eagles pulled away with a 16-8 advantage in the fourth, led by Bradford and B. Melton with four points each, Bradford with a three. Little and Tinsley each hit another three-pointer, and Holt added a pair. Pate and Milam each hit a three for the Lady Rebels, and Stafford added a pair.

McKenzie’s Jaycee Stafford tied for the leading scorer with 16 points, including a pair of threes. Sophie Pate and Addison Milam each scored nine on a trio of threes.

Lady Eagle Gibson Boykin also scored 16 points. Blakely Melton scored eleven.

Eagles 66, Rebels 39
JCS had a 17-14 lead after the first frame, led by Birman Jenkins with six points. Co Vargason, Ethan Matthews and Chase Brooks each hit a three, and Cam Jackson had a pair. Rebel Eli Vinson scored five, including a three-pointer, and Carter Kee, Nolan Fawcett and Cayden Ownby each hit a three.

The Eagles had a 15-6 advantage in the second quarter, led by Jenkins with nine points, including a three. Vargason, Kelsey Rose and Carter Smith each had a pair. Kee and Landyn Smith each hit a three for McKenzie. At the half, the Eagles led 32-20.

JCS enjoyed a 21-14 tilt in the third, led by Vargason with nine points. Jenkins scored eight, and Rose had four points. Fawcett scored eleven for the Rebels with a trio of threes, and Kee had three points. Heading into the final frame, JCS led 53-34.

The Eagles capped the win with a 13-5 edge in the fourth, led by Smith with five points, including a three. Rose scored four points, and Carlos Roberson had a pair. Kee had all five McKenzie points, including a three-pointer.

Eagle Birman Jenkins led all scorers with 23 points, including a three-pointer. Co Vargason scored 14, also with a three. Kelsey Rose had the points.

Rebels Carter Kee and Nolan Fawcett each scored 14, Fawcett with four three-pointers and Kee with three.
