McKenzie Swept by McEwen

McKENZIE (January 20) — McKenzie High School hosted McEwen Monday for a pair of district basketball contests. The fifth-ranked Warriorettes rode an early lead to a 75-51 win. The Rebels made a late rally, pulling within two points more than once before falling to the Warriors, 72-64.
McEwen Warriorettes 75, McKenzie Lady Rebels 51
The Warriorettes jumped out to a 19-6 lead after the opening frame, led by Laila Downs-Darden with 15 points, including a three-pointer. Shana Bohanon scored four points. Lady Rebel Jaycee Stafford scored six points.
McEwen had an 18-12 advantage in the second quarter, led by Downs-Darden with ten points. Bohanon scored five with a three, and Ellie Littleton also hit a three-pointer. Stafford again led McKenzie with eleven points. Ava Hastings hit a free throw. At the half, McEwen led 37-18.
The Warriorettes had a 23-19 edge in the third, led by S. Bohanon with a dozen. Downs-Darden scored nine with a three, and Tiana Bohanon had a pair. Stafford scored 14 for the Lady Rebels, Molly French hit a three, and Aurora Johnson had a pair. Entering the final frame, the Warriorettes led 60-37.
McEwen sealed the win with a 15-14 tilt in the fourth, led by Downs-Darden with ten points, including a pair of three-pointers. Littleton also hit a three, and Avery Branch had a pair. Hastings and French each hit a three for McKenzie, and Stafford and Braylin Auvenshine each scored three points. Johnson added a pair.
Warriorette Laila Downs-Darden led all scorers with 44 points, including four three-pointers. Shana Bohanon scored 21 with a three.
Jaycee Stafford led McKenzie with 34 points.
Warriors 72, Rebels 64
McEwen had an 18-13 lead after the first frame, led by Zeke Harrington with eight points. Caleb Coates and Landon Davis each scored four, Coates with a three-pointer. Ty Greene had a pair. Craegen Travis led McKenzie with six points. Tate Surber scored four, and Landon Brown hit a three-pointer.
The Warriors had a 14-10 advantage in the second quarter, led by Davis with eight points. T. Greene, Harrington and Case Greene each had a pair. Eli Vinson led the Rebels with five points, including a three. Cole Brown and Carter Kee each had a pair, and Surber hit a free throw. At the half, McEwen led 32-23.
McKenzie had a 15-14 edge in the third, led by Surber and L. Brown with six points each, Brown on a pair of threes. C. Brown also hit a three. Coates and C. Greene each scored six for the Warriors, each with a three-pointer. T. Greene and Davis each added a pair. Heading into the final frame, the Warriors led 46-38.
The fourth was a 26-26 wash. C. Greene led McEwen with 13 points, including a three. Davis scored four, and Harrington had three points. Coates, T. Greene and Dalton Williams each had a pair. Surber led the Rebels with nine points, including a three. Kee scored seven with a three, and Travis had four points. C. Brown and L. Brown each hit a three-pointer.
Tate Surber led McKenzie with 20 points, including a three. Landon Brown had a dozen on four three-pointers. Craegen Travis scored ten points.
Case Greene led McEwen with 20 points, including a pair of threes. Landon Davis scored 18, and Zeke Harrington had 13 points.
