McKenzie Valve and Machining Conducts School-Supply Drive
From the Jul 16, 2024 e-EditionIt’s school time again. Most local students return in early August with the Carroll County Schools starting Tuesday, August 6 for one-half day.
McKenzie Valve and Machining, located in the McKenzie Industrial Park-South at the airport, is conducting its second annual backpack and school supply drive for area school children.
Donations and contributions can be dropped at the McKenzie Chamber of Commerce at 9 Broadway Street or at McKenzie Valve and Machining, 145 Airport Lane from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. Monetary donations are also accepted - all until July 19.
Last year the manufacturing company, with help from local citizens, helped students at seven local school systems: McKenzie, Huntingdon, West Carroll, Bruceton, Clarksburg, Henry, Gleason and Dresden. Last year, there were 160 supplied-filled backpacks distributed.
The industry created a donation list based on local schools’ supply lists, taking note of general supplies needed at all schools across all grades. All donations were then packed into backpacks, which will be distributed to each school during the first week of classes.
This year, the list includes #2 pencils Ticonderoga (no plastic-coated pencils), cap erasers, glue sticks and Elmer’s bottle glue, pencil pouch/box, earbuds (wired), notebook paper-wide ruled, composition notebook, dry erase markers, 24-pack Crayola crayons, scissors - safety tip, regular tissues, Clorox wipes, plastic folders with brads, highlighters, and backpacks.
For more information, phone the Chamber at 731-352-2004.
