CARROLL COUNTY (July 24) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Jackson District Aviation Unit assisted local agencies today in the search for an 83-year-old Carroll County man with dementia and limited mobility who had been reported missing.

THP Aviation located the man in a field holding his dog and directed members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Carroll County Rescue Squad, Baptist EMS and Carroll County Fire Department to his location.

Thanks to the swift response and coordination of THP Aviation and local law enforcement and volunteers, the man was found safely.

A THP helicopter is based at the Carroll County Airport.

Local emergency responders, many of whom are volunteers, train for search and rescue operations. The THP helicopter with its thermal imaging cameras, provides a great asset in such operations.

In April, 2026, the Carroll County Rescue Squad, Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies, THP searched for Lisa Fields, who was missing. A daytime search by foot and with drones was unsuccessful. The THP Aviation unit located Mrs. Fields that evening. She was rescued and received medical care.
