From the Dec 30, 2024 e-Edition
McKENZIE (December 20) — McKenzie Middle School wrapped the fall semester Friday with its annual Christmas program.
The student body, staff and family members gathered in the gymnasium for festive music, skits and games.
Lillian Brown welcomed everyone, then the middle school band, under the direction of Daniel Capua, performed “Deck the Halls” and “Go Tell it on the Mountain”.
Veda Haney directed her music classes in performances of “Silent Night” and “Christmas Carol Medley,” which featured a solo by Addison Doede.
Various groups of students performed original skits and dances. The MMS cheerleaders each chose a teacher to perform a trendy dance with them. The cheerleaders also performed a dance routine.
The school’s six “houses”, Sollevare, Reveur, Onraka, Nukumori, Isibindi and Altruismo, competed in several games.
In the Gingerbread Cookie Challenge, four members of each house (one from each grade) were tasked with getting a cookie from their forehead to their mouth without using their hands.
Elf, Elf, Santa was a festive version of Duck, Duck, Goose. The final game was a unique take on Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Hadley Smith closed the program by wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday break.
In the lobby, each house had a Christmas tree on display.
