Middle School Students Donate 885 Items to Local Food Banks
From the Nov 11, 2025 e-Edition
McKENZIE (November 7) — McKenzie Middle School students were challenged to donate non-perishable food items last week during the school’s annual “Week of Thankfulness” initiative. At the conclusion of the week, the school received 885 food items to donate to McKenzie United Neighbors and Cash Express.
Middle school staff turned the week into a fun challenge for the students. Early in the year, the staff separated students into six different “houses” reflecting the school’s values. During the Week of Thankfulness, each house of students competed to donate the largest amount of food items.
Friday, the middle school announced the winning house: Altruismo. The Altruismo house, named after the word “altruism,” consists of 66 students across fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade. The house donated 270 items in total.
McKenzie Middle School hosts a clothing drive the first week of December, giving students another chance to give back to the community.
