MMS Rebels Shut Out Stewart County, 32-0
McKENZIE (September 3) — McKenzie Middle School’s defense forced multiple turnovers and kept Stewart County off the scoreboard Thursday as the Rebels rolled to a 32-0 victory.
McKenzie grabbed momentum early after Stewart County went three-and-out on its opening possession and followed with a poor snap on fourth down. Navadius Owens capitalized with a touchdown run to give MMS the early lead.
Following another defensive stop, McKenzie marched down the field before Da'Von Webb broke free for a 41-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 12-0.
Makhyn Gilbert then intercepted a Stewart County pass, setting up another McKenzie score. Colin Yelley caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Cord Wall, who replaced starting quarterback Kenden Coleman during the first quarter, to push the lead to 18-0.
McKenzie’s defense continued to shut down Stewart County, and Wall connected with Thomas Howard for a 53-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-0.
Gilbert later added to his interception with a 2-yard touchdown run, extending McKenzie’s advantage to 30-0.
Special teams proved to be one of the few trouble spots for McKenzie, but a bad snap on an extra-point attempt turned into a successful 2-point conversion, giving the Rebels their final 32-0 margin.
Kash Shaw helped seal the shutout with another interception as the McKenzie defense completed a dominant night.
The Rebels return home Thursday, September 10, to face the Huntingdon Middle School Mustangs.
